DESIGN
The process begins with meticulous Design and Drafting. As depicted in the accompanying sketch, this phase involves visualizing the final product and creating a technical blueprint. The designer determines the silhouette (the iconic round ghera skirt), the style of the choli (bodice), and the placement of decorative elements. The sketch is not just an artistic expression; it's a technical pattern defining all necessary dimensions, including the size of the neck opening and the length of the skirt, ensuring a perfect, proportionate fit for the deity.
SELECTION
Following the design, the Selection phase focuses entirely on materials and aesthetics, which is often dictated by the occasion or season. The designer chooses the primary fabric (e.g., lightweight cotton for summer, velvet for winter) and critical adornments, such as specialized laces, gota work, or specific colors. This choice of materials transforms the pencil sketch into a vibrant, tactile concept, setting the theme and mood for the finished garment.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
The final stage is Craftsmanship, where the blueprint meets the material. The paper patterns are transferred accurately onto the chosen fabric. The pieces are then expertly cut and assembled with precision stitching. Great care is taken during the finishing work, which involves meticulously attaching trims, embellishments, and secure closures. High-quality craftsmanship ensures that the dress is not only beautiful but also durable, maintaining its grace and form for years of devotional use.
